Grocery Shopping Raises Money for Claremont
Every time you use your grocery store savings card the Claremont PTA earns money. Last year, Claremont PTA raised a few thousand dollars just from grocery shopping! So please help by linking or re-linking your grocery store savings cards.

Student Directory
To ensure accuracy in the Claremont directory, either enter your information online at the PTA web site (www.claremont-pta.org) or complete this form. If you would like your information to stay the same as last year, please indicate that below. The information we receive from the school may not be accurate. If you would prefer NOT to be included in the directory, you must submit this form.
Will the school directory have e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers? It will include email addresses but only if you provide them to us. It will NOT include cell phone numbers. There simply isn’t enough room. Cell phone numbers can be found on the PTA website directory, so you can input it there if you would like others to have it. If you prefer to provide your information electronically, go to the website. This section of the website password protected – user ID: ptaparent PASSWORD: parrots. To update information, simply type the student’s LAST NAME in the space provided. If your student does not appear (or you did not enter this information last year) go to the “click here to enter your information” in the preceding paragraph of the weblink and follow the instructions. If you prefer not to complete the electronic version, you can use the attached form. All information must be provided by September 23rd to be included in the hard copy directory.

WELCOME CLAREMONT FAMILIES
FROM THE PTA
The PTA welcomes new families to Claremont and looks forward to reconnecting with returning Claremont families. The Claremont community is a special one; the school administration, staff, teachers, parents and students join together to create a close-knit and supportive community. We are all excited about the upcoming year, and I look forward to working with you to support the Claremont family. To officially kick things off, please note two key dates that we invite you to attend:
- Back to School Social – September 9th at 6:00 pm.
- First PTA Meeting – September 13th at 7 pm.
- School Pictures – October 26th.
The PTA’s efforts to enhance the Claremont experience for your child and the school include fundraising and volunteering. To that end, Claremont has a very active and enthusiastic PTA. The money the PTA raised last year came from parents who donated time and/or money to Claremont by participating in fundraisers, such as Sally Foster, book fairs, class photos, the silent auction, grocery store club cards, and school supplies through the PTA. These funds were used for classroom resources and technology, after-school enrichment scholarships, teacher, administration and staff appreciation activities, teacher grants and professional development, library books, a Read Across America speaker, music and art activities, Spanish-language materials, school events and holiday happenings, the directory, school garden benches, patrols, Odyssey of the Mind, and social opportunities for the community. What a difference volunteers make!
We hope you will join in and become part of the PTA’s efforts. Parental involvement is key to a successful school, and volunteers definitely make things happen atClaremont!
PTA Volunteers Needed: As a testament to our wonderful Claremont community, most PTA committee chair positions are filled for the upcoming school year, but we still need a Book Fair Chair, a Silent Auction Chair and a Parent-Teacher Soccer Game Chair. This does not mean that you cannot become involved with the PTA or that we do not need volunteers or committee members because we definitely do!! Please consider volunteering for a committee. Your participation is always needed and appreciated! New ideas are also welcome!
Visit the Claremont PTA website (claremont-pta.org) to see a list and description of the PTA’s committees. Identify the committee(s) for which you are interested in volunteering and contact me, Clair Sassin (volunteer coordinator) or the Vice-President or chair responsible for that committee.
Communication Tools: Communication is key, and many vehicles exist includingArlingtonCounty and Claremont PTA websites. Tuesday packets, PTA meetings, a phone tree, the school newsletter, and a Spanish speaking liaison serve to provide effective communication, APS School Talk (register via the school website), and two Claremont listservs exist for parents. The Claremont PTA listserv is used to communicate school-related information (e.g., schedules, Sally Foster deadlines, etc.) while Parrots Prattle is for non-PTA related discussions (e.g., child care needs, recommending contractors, community goings-on, etc.). Student Directory: You can provide information for the Claremont Directory on the Claremont PTA website. (This section of the website is password protected – User ID:ptaparent and Password:parrots). The information gathered creates the hard copy version of the directory issued in October. Please enter or update your family information. If you prefer not to provide information electronically or if you want to opt out of the directory, a paper form will be sent home in the second Tuesday Packet of the school year for you to complete.

El PTA le da la bienvenida a todas las familias de Claremont. Nuestra comunidad es un grupo muy unido de administradores, empleados, profesores, padres y estudiantes que se reunen para ayudarse mutuamente, y el PTA se alegra de las oportunidades que tendrá este nuevo año de trabajar con ustedes para ayudar a toda la comunidad. Las fechas de los dos primeroes eventos del PTA son:

Las principales actividades el PTA incluyen recaudación de fondos y voluntariado. El dinero recaudado por el PTA el año pasado provino de donaciones de padres que participaron de actividades como Sally Foster, la feria del libro, las fotos de las clases, la subasta silenciosa, el programa de donaciones de los supermercados, y la compra de útiles escolares a través del PTA.
Estos fondos se usaron para mejorar los recursos tecnológicos de los salones de clases, pagar becas para actividades de enriquecimiento después de la escuela, actividades en honor de los profesores y el personal administrativo subsidios para desarrollo profesional de los profesores, libros para la biblioteca, actividades musicales y artísticas eventos sociales, el directorio de padres, las bancas de la jardín, las patrullas de seguridad, el programa Odyssey of the Mind, y mucho más.
