This Week: Enrichment Program Begins… Sally Foster Fundraiser Ends

Future thespians, guitar heroes, dodgeball aficionados and who knows, maybe even the next Bobby Fischer… will get the chance to develop their talents after the final school bell rings.  After school enrichment classes begin this week.

The Claremont Science Department is holding workshops this week to help parents navigate goals and expectations for the science program this year.  Parents of students in 3rd – 5th grade can attend a workshop on Tuesday, September 27 from 5:30 – 6:00.  Parents of students in Kindergarten – 2nd grade can attend a workshop on Thursday, September 29 from 5:00 – 6:00.

One of the PTA’s biggest fundraisers, Sally Foster and the Entertainment Books, ends this week.  Students can turn in the money they’ve raised to their teachers or the front office all week long.  The PTA will also have a table set up before school on Thursday morning, September 29.

Finally, a thank you to all the teachers and staff who worked so hard to put the Back-to-School night together last week.  It’s always a pleasure to meet our students’ teachers and see the work our students are doing in school.

This Week: Back-to-School Night and a Thank You to the Grounds Helpers!

As students head into another week, they may notice some freshly tended plants after students and parents turned out this weekend for a Claremont Grounds Planting Day.  Thanks to Steve Duall and his team and all the parents and students who came out to help!

We also want to remind parents to come to Back-to-School night this Wednesday, September 21 at 7:00p.m.  This is a parents event; students are encouraged to stay home.  It’s a great night to meet your child’s teachers and learn what they’re cooking up for the school year.  Mark your calendar!

Finally, forms are due Monday for after school enrichment activities.  If you have a young Picasso at home or if your child may like a little after-school boost in English or Spanish, these classes can help.  They’re filling up fast.  Turn in your forms!

Back to School Social Fun and Huge PTA Turn Out

A huge shout out to Susie Wallin for organizing the back to school social! It looked like the kids loved their popsicles and so did some of the parents including me!

Thank you for the fantastic turn out for the PTA meeting last night! It was great to see so many new and returning faces. We are looking forward to a fun filled year for all of us. As I understand not everyone got the calendar in their first Tuesday packet, attached is the school calendar.  We’re also including the volunteer descriptions so you can get a better sense of what each committee project entails.

Stay Fit and Raise Money for Claremont

Here is a fun way for our kids to exercise and work together to win a great prize for Claremont.

The Marine Corps Marathon fun run will be Saturday October 29.  Schools can register as a group (minimum 25 participants) and the top 5 schools win an assembly from the marines about living a healthy lifestyle and a cash prize (last year it was $1000) for the PE department.  The winning schools last year had 105 or more participants.

We need at least 25 students to qualify as a group.

It costs $7/runner you would need to pay me so that I can make a single payment to MCM.

Registration forms are due to me before 9/21 in order to submit in their database.

I am attaching the registration form and here is the website for more information  http://www.marinemarathon.com/MCM_Weekend/Healthy_Kids_Fun_Run.htm.

The registration form will be on the yahoo group site as well in case the attachment doesn’t go through.  Right now we are tentatively held for 9:30 time slot but that isn’t guaranteed.

One-mile course

* Every participant

earns a medal

* Open to ages 5-12

* Free family fitness festival,

healthy snacks & mascots

* Registration only $7

Please make payments to Laurie Mangum and submit everything by 9/21 so that I can enter our team.  I will pick up race bibs and t -shirts and deliver to school on Friday October 28.  If there are any parents that would like to help me with bibs and t-shirts that would be wonderful.

Sally Foster / Entertainment Book Fundraiser / Sally Foster y Libro de cupones de entretenimiento

SUPPORT OUR SALLY FOSTER / ENTERTAINMENT BOOK FUNDRAISER

The PTA is excited to offer the Entertainment Book and Sally Foster gift wrap sale, one of our biggest fundraisers.   The coupon book will come home with your student on Thursday, September 8th and the Sally Foster catalog will come home with them on Thursday, September 15th.

The Entertainment Book
The Entertainment book is filled with both local and national discount offers for most anything you can imagine.  It costs $30, and Claremont will receive $15 for each book sold.  The book pays for itself simply by using the coupons in the book a few times; it will continue to give you cost savings over the next 14 months.  Buy books for friends and family, and Claremont still earns 50% profit on each book.

Gift Wrap
We continue to offer the Sally Foster gift wrap.  This year we are back to selling from a catalog.  You can use the catalogue and order form to take orders from family and friends.  All orders ship directly to the customer.  The catalog and order form will come home with your student on September 15th.

Turn-In Tables
Please turn in all money collected, unsold Entertainment Books, and Sally Foster order forms on one of our Turn In Days: September 15th, 22nd, or 29th.  A table will be set up in the school lobby from 7:30 -8:00 a.m. for your child to turn everything in.  Students who participate in either program will receive instant prizes.

If you have any questions about either program please contact Amber Dungan at itsber@yahoo.com.

Thank you for your participation and support of the PTA and our school.Volunteers Make Things Happen!

¡Apoye Uno De Nuestros Eventos Más Grandes Para Recaudar Fondos!

The PTA welcomes parents and students back

Dear Claremont Parents:

On behalf of the PTA, I wanted to welcome you and your children to another year at Claremont Immersion.  From my own personal experience, I know that the beginning of the year can be overwhelming for both new and returning parents. It’s a major accomplishment getting through those first weeks of school – filling in forms, organizing schedules, establishing routines and making playdates. That craziness is also a wonderful memory we’re creating with our children.

Over the course of the year, we hope you and your family participate in the numerous family events like the always popular Fall Fun Fest and the International Dinner and Dance. We can always use your support through various volunteering activities such as the silent auction – the school’s biggest fundraiser, book fairs, homeroom hospitality events and in attending PTA meetings. Claremont brings families, teachers and staff together in a variety of ways in part because of the enthusiastic and active PTA. The PTA raises thousands of dollars through a variety of programs that include after school enrichment scholarships, social events, classroom technology and outdoor grounds projects. And, of course, just being involved in your child’s school day is critically important to the success of your child’s school experience.

If you think that you can’t be part of the PTA because you don’t have time or abilities, please think again – it does not need to be time consuming – parents can become involved in many ways – large and small. It can be as simple as attending a PTA meeting or as complex as organizing a new intiative. It all counts and helps the kids and the school.

I look forward to the family events so I can reconnect with parents and share some of our summer experiences – a grown up sort of show and tell and meet new parents and hear their stories.  The sense of community at Claremont helps keep me connected all year long.

As new parents navigate the sometimes overwhelming maze of elementary school and returning parents wander through a new grade or class, feel free to reach out to me online, saritabhargava@hotmail.com, via phone 703-533-3371, or on the web – claremontpta.org anytime with any comments or questions. We’re happy to help.

Participar no debe ocuparle mucho tiempo.

Estimadamente,
