Letters needed: Teacher of the Year / Support Person of the Year

It is our great pleasure to announce that 4th grade teacher Kim Klaus has been selected as Claremont’s Teacher of  the Year.  Ms. Klaus has taught for Arlington since 2001 and has been at Claremont for 7 years. As many of you have experienced, Kim is an excellent teacher who takes great care to get to know all of her students and create a special relationship with each one.  Over the years she has held several leadership positions, including Mentor Coordinator, Social Studies Lead and Claremont Lead Teacher.  She is currently spearheading a cross-grade level committee to get students excited about reading.  Kim will now compete with teachers from other Arlington schools for the title of APS Teacher of the Year.

It is also our pleasure to announce that administrative assistant Lety Macias has been nominated as Claremont’s Support Person of the Year.  Ms. Lety, as she is known by students and parents, has worked in the front office for 5 years.  Each day her warmth, humor and helpful manner lights up the lives of all who come in contact with her.  She will also represent Claremont as she competes for APS Support Person of the Year.

We need your help!  We are looking for parents and students who would be willing to write letters of support to be included in the application packets for the above nominees.  These letters of support are an important part of the application process as they help us to illustrate to the county-wide selection committee that our wonderful Claremont nominees for Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year are deserving of the APS titles.  Please contact Susan Burnett (703-228-2513) if you plan to contribute a letter of support.  All letters are due Friday, January 6.

¡ Muchas Gracias!

Coat and Toy Drive… and Art of Giving Parties!

Worldwide Helpers Coat and Toy Drive… please scour your closets for any gently used winter coats.  In these tough economic times, there are plenty of children who could use a donated coat to keep warm this winter.   No need to clean it before donating… a local dry cleaner is willing to clean up the coats.  We’re also collecting new toys to give away for those in need.  The coat and toy drive ends December 22.

Wednesday is an early-release day and also a Claremont Read-a-thon.  Have your child bring his or her favorite book to read on Wednesday!

Third grade parents can continue the joy of reading on Thursday night, December 15.  The third grade Parent-Student reading workshop will be held in the library between 5:30 – 7:30 Thursday night.

Also, Adelante will hold a parent meeting in the conference room on Friday morning between 7:30 – 9:00 a.m.
